School holidays and national holidays:
Students have autumn, New Year, winter, 1 May and summer holidays.
Autumn holidays usually last one week and are organized around the national holidays (31 October, 1 November) which are included in autumn holidays.
New Year holidays last from 25 December until the end of the New Year festivities.
Winter holidays last one week and are divided alternatively into two periods between different statistical regions. The first period starts on the third Monday in February and the second the following Monday.
Primary school students from the Gorenjska, Goriška, Notranjsko-kraška, Obalno-kraška, Osrednjeslovenska and Zasavska statistical regions and the municipitalities of the Southeastern Slovenia: Ribnica, Sodražica, Loški Potok, Kočevje, Osilnica and Kostel have their winter holidays during the first period in the school year starting with an odd number and during the second period in the school year starting with an even number.
Primary school students from the Southeastern Slovenia (except for the municipalities mentioned in the previous paragraph) and the Koroška, Podravska, Pomurska, Savinjska and Spodnje posavska statistical regions have their winter holidays during the first period in the school year starting with an even number and during the second period in the school year starting with an odd number.
The 1 May holidays begin on 27 April and last until the end of the 1 May national holidays.
The summer holidays last from the end of the school year until 31 August.
